This large scale outdoor sculpture is both playful and thought-provoking. The artist's conception of the large pine cone as a colonization device is realized in corten steel. Stretching over 9 feet, it has a strong presence. Floyd Elzinga’s work is fundamentally inspired by the natural world and the every day. He explores traditional landscape through non-traditional techniques, and is strongly influenced by both the natural and cultivated environment. Elzinga’s iconic Canadian pinecone sculptures have been featured as part of Toronto’s Scotiabank Nuit Blanche celebration of contemporary art. His work is held in collections in Ontario and the US.
