Fort Standard, ‘Nº 11 "Implements for Fire": "Blow Poker" & "Firewood Holder"’, 2015, Chamber

Fort Standard’s “Implements for Fire” is a set of two fireplace tools, a firewood holder and a blow poker, that serve as a link between nature and the domestic setting. The firewood holder’s construction employs the use of traditional joinery methods to create an elevated framework, and its matching blow poker is intended to encourage interaction with fire.

Both a blow pipe and a fire iron at once, it can be used to stoke the burning wood in a fireplace, or to fuel hot embers as one blows into its hollow shaft, further fueling the fire with oxygen. The blow poker is made out of steel, for strength, and the mouthpiece from brass for its inherent anti-microbial qualities.
