Frances Disley, ‘= x +’, 2016, Liverpool Biennial

Frances Disley (b.1976, Warrington, UK) lives in Liverpool, UK. Disley seeks to expose the thought processes of the artist when wrestling with form and colour. She uses her own body to animate the crude painted objects and surfaces that she creates.

Frances Disley is one of three artists invited to transform a double decker bus for Liverpool Biennial 2016. The buses can be seen driving on routes through the City Centre, South Liverpool, North Liverpool and the Wirral. Disley’s bus 'Blaze' is inspired by the success story of Liverpool-born Eunice Huthart, the only contestant on 1990s TV action game-show Gladiators to become a ‘Gladiator’ herself. 'Blaze' depicts the artist as a painted character with the power to blend into her own artwork. '= x +' borrows directly from 'Blaze'.
