Gabriele Mierzwa, born in Germany in 1958, collected experiences in the studio of Prof. Henryk Dziecol from 1971 until 1978. Gabriele Mierzwa was just fourteen years old, as she won the Golden Medal J. Nehru by UNICEF in an art contest in India. From 1973 until 1979 Gabriele Mierzwa completed her studies at the school of fine arts in Kattowitz. Since 1985 Gabriele Mierzwa works as independent artist. At present she lives and works in the Black Forest, Germany.
Typical of Gabriele Mierzwa's works is the sensitive catching of the dynamic of erotic gestures in moments of intimate sensuality just as the powerful conversion from artistic spontaneity into a tremendous blaze of color.
Mierzwa’s main intention is to arrange harmony and beauty. In the center of her artworks is the nude: natural and graceful. The observer is impressed at first glance by the figurative drawing. Tender color-fogs and dynamic lines form the background of the works. The observer's fantasy itself can freely develop.
The emotions and imaginations of the observer freely develop by looking at the informal paintings of Gabriele Mierzwa. The concrete forms disappear. They lost their contours. Only transparently arranged color areas are visible.
To change perceptions and create something new – that's the motto of Mierzwa. The artist fits together fragments of memory. The nudes arise from her daily observations and are stimulated by her fantasy.
During the last 16 years Gabriele Mierzwa developed into a well-known artist within the international art scene.

About Gabriele Mierzwa
Drawing from both her imagination and close observation of the human figure, Gabriele Mierzwa paints intimate mixed-media nudes—typically women—in sensual postures. Interested in creating harmonious compositions, Mierzwa depicts her subjects in a predominantly pale, neutral palette, with accents of vibrant color, against soft backgrounds composed of hazy colors and lines, so that the figures’ contours appear to dissolve into their settings. In her large-scale painting Awaken (2013), a nude woman with milky white skin lies, horizontally, on her back with her eyes closed in an expression of peacefulness or post-coital pleasure.
