George Tice
American, b. 1938
Follow

With the loving, honed eye of a preservationist, George Tice captures the buildings, bridges, and parking lots of small town America that are likely to be forgotten. In the tradition of great chroniclers of everyday American life, like Walker Evans and Edward Hopper, Tice’s black-and-white photographs engage an interest in the quiet beauty of the mundane. The richly tonal images seem to unlock the cultural nuances of rural communities like the Amish of Pennsylvania or the fisherman of Maine. In some images, the drama of the everyday is expressed in glowingly lit night scenes that recall the suspense of film noir scenes.
