Working in the tradition of Op Art, Giacomo Santiago Rogado paints boldly geometric compositions meant to hold complex visual illusions. Although technically immaculate and hard-edged, Rogado’s paintings of triangles, grids, and bars play out dynamic rhythms before the viewer, often yielding illusions of depth and dissolution upon prolonged observation. “It’s a matter of delaying the first glance as long as possible,” Rogado says, “delaying the first glance so long that it is more than just a glance, [that] it becomes a contemplation, a conception, or even a state.”
