Driven by a desire to comment on contemporary conservative politics, gilf! creates public murals, street art, and installations that are intended to incite debate. Similar to street artists like Banksy and Shepard Fairey, gilf! fuses recognizable symbols to create pointed, hybrid images that probe ideas of social injustice, environmental degradation, and the ethics of innovation. In some of her best-known public works, helicopters spray hearts instead of ammunition and hands twist into peace signs that double as American flags.
