About Gloria Friedmann

Multimedia artist Gloria Friedmann is best known for her radical “tableau vivants”—carnivalesque arrangements of people, animals, plants, and everyday objects set in urban environments. Moving between performance, sculpture, and installation, Friedmann explores the charged relationship between nature and contemporary culture. In addition to using live flora and fauna, Freidmann incorporates taxidermied animals into the majority of her static works. The preserved creatures can be read as both an homage to the beauty of nature and a warning of its fragility.
