A silver litra from Syracuse, dating to 466 - 405 BC.

The obverse with the head of Arethusa, in typical Archaic style; her hair tied into a bunch, sagging by her neck and bound with a pearl diadem. The abbreviated legend reads:

ΣΥΡΑ

"Syracuse"

The reverse with an octopus, its tentacles twisting and curling around its body.
