This painting is a variation on the theme of expansion and contraction. The colored patches suggest some reminiscence of a swarm, somewhat chaotic but nevertheless coherent. In Helsen's view: "this is a metaphor for pulsating live".
Greet Helsen draws inspiration from the natural world to produce abstract landscapes composed of acrylic paint, which she approaches like watercolor, rendering thin washes of the pigment. Typically set against bright white backgrounds, the shimmering, luminous color blocks and lines in her paintings are accentuated, creating qualities of lightness and softness and an almost ethereal effect.
