Greet Helsen, ‘Remembrance’, 2013, Artspace Warehouse

Greet Helsen uses mainly acrylic paint, but uses it like watercolor paint. The shimmering colored areas are superimposed and transparent and are accentuated by ink lines and white light reflecting fields of color. This process produces artworks with unmistakable lightness and softness.

About Greet Helsen

Greet Helsen draws inspiration from the natural world to produce abstract landscapes composed of acrylic paint, which she approaches like watercolor, rendering thin washes of the pigment. Typically set against bright white backgrounds, the shimmering, luminous color blocks and lines in her paintings are accentuated, creating qualities of lightness and softness and an almost ethereal effect.
