About Greg Murr

Greg Murr combines painting and drawing in airy compositions that function as philosophical inquiries into the flux of the natural world. In a series of work about bodies of water, Murr abstracts cartographic and satellite images of rivers into watercolor streaks that create a sense of dynamism and produce what he sees as an environmentally specific vocabulary for each body of water. In a series of work titled “The Usual Politics,” Murr depicts dogs amidst strands of pearls. The seemingly discordant imagery deals in metaphor, juxtaposing the animalistic tendencies of humans with the consumer-driven impulses that govern contemporary society.
