Gregory Orekhov, ‘Little Agatha ’, 2017, Orekhov Gallery

Named after Gregory’s daughter Agatha this work is inspired by a popular soviet roly-poly toy «nevalyashka». The artist is clearly trying to deal with the idea of his daughter inevitably growing up and touches upon the fundamental subject of «fathers and children» which is very dear to him.
Stainless steel used in «Agatha» composition, brightly polished for a mirror look forces everyone to engage in a dialogue with oneself from the perspective of a child who looks at his own “grown-up” reflection. A unique mechanism that makes the roly-poly toy right itself when pushed over metaphorically implies artist’s resilience and his endless longing towards art regardless of the
circumstances.
