With precision and wit, Guy Le Baube focuses his camera on the female form, capturing its every nuance in both celebrated editorial work and his own black-and-white photographs. His fashion photographs have appeared in such publications as Vogue, Harpers Bazaar, and Elle. In the early 1990s, he began pursuing his own work, focused on the female nude. His first series from this period, called “Behind the Scene,” offers intimate portraits of his leggy models, often shod only in heels. Many of his photographs evince a Surrealist touch—artful shadows; doubled images; eroticism—in homage to Man Ray. Le Baube approaches his work with a sense of playfulness and an awareness of the darker side of fashion: the objectification of women. He refers to this in his “Readymade” series, oversized photographs of female types, packed into crates, ready for shipping.
