Guy Richards Smit was born in 1970 and is an American performance artist, painter, and singer-songwriter. He is based in New York City. Richards Smit’s work has been exhibited widely nationally and internationally, including at the Pompidou Center, Paris; Museum of Modern Art, New York City; biennials in Havana and Valencia; ARCOMadrid; the Dublin Contemporary, Ireland; and in solo exhibitions in the US and UK. His paintings, performances, video installations, and rock operas humorously and darkly explore themes of narcissism, desire, power, failure. Recent watercolors draw attention to funny juxtapositions of words or literal translations of phrases used in the media and social media.
