"Di Antonia" is part of a series entitled "The Odd Company," a continuation of brightly coloured ceramic grotesques that Han Van Wetering is known for. Their orgiastic bodies are inspired by those found in baroque sculptures, which the artist simultaneously parodies.
Van Wetering's bestial and monstrous characters are far from saints. This goblin has a green face. Like is a creature of the underworld, its body oozes like lava. With its head bent, it tries to look up at the only speck of blue sky and seems to be falling and fallen.
