About Hanno Otten

Hanno Otten’s photographs and photograms are an extended, abstract meditation on the expressive possibilities of pure color. He deconstructs the elements of color photography to form individual bands of vivid color, abstract geometric shapes, and merging color planes. In many cases, the colors themselves are even further dissected into various hues, shades, and tints. Otten sees his images as a pure study of the interaction between color and light; lacking any figurative or narrative imagery, they draw the legacy of Color Field Painting and pure abstraction into photography.
