A beautiful maple vessel turned on a lathe from a single freshly-felled tree trunk cut to a thickness of 3mm. The artist draws attention to the material in highlighting the grain and markings through the form of each piece. "My aim is to create beautiful and exciting shapes out of wood. I make large bowls and vessels using primarily beech and ash found on the island of Bonholm. I focus mainly on creating the right shape - usually the wood is beautiful in itself. Wood is a wonderful living material to work with, it is important to have understanding and respect for the material. I like simplicity. Shapes must be as clean as possible.” -Hans Henning Pederson
