Faux Butterflies in Resin.
Batista’s work cuts in multiple directions depending on context and audience. In his resin Bullet series, Batista toys with the symbolism of the bullet by inserting various objects such as butterflies, feathers, and dollar bills within the resin sculpture. Paired together they create multivalent interpretation whether it be the idea of using weapons to keep the peace or the consumerism and profit of war. By toying rather than pontificating, Batista can be playful while also gesturing at serious dissonances in society; Batista welcomes discussion but resists projections of specific ideas onto his pieces.
