About Herbert Brandl

Austrian painter Herbert Brandl produces paintings characterized by swaths of vibrant color and dizzying brushstrokes. Emerging from the Hamburg School painting tradition, Brandl’s work includes landscape imagery—mountains and flowers—and non-representational color surfaces, often on large-format canvases both rectangular and circular in shape. Using oil and watercolor, Brandl applies his paint in a wide range of brushstrokes, sometimes allowing it to drip down the surface of the canvas.
