Legendary fashion designer Issey Miyake, known for his technology-driven designs, held his first solo fashion show in 1971 at Japan Society (then Japan House). His BAO BAO ISSEY MIYAKE is a line of bags and pouches with the theme of "shapes made by chance." Featuring flexible functionality, the bag is both light and soft, folding to accommodate and transform after handling to create dramatic new shapes. The "Chord" series features not only the brand's iconic triangular pieces, but also round, square, arrows and lightning bolt details which have never before been used in the brand's collections. In a reference to the brand’s playful rock spirit, details include volume dials and "L" and "R" signs on the adjustable headphone-shaped handles. Included is the Taschen monograph ISSEY MIYAKE三宅 一生 (2016, 511 pages).
