"Infancia - Estatua de Sal" is part of a series of three busts. A portrait was made of the artist when he was 2 years-old. Once an adult, he disliked this bust of poor quality. He reworked it and casted two bronzes out of the new portrait: one for him and one for his mother. When thinking of evoking childhood, he chose to use this newly self-portrait (a portrait of himself as a child). Each material used stresses a childhood memory. Like the Proust's Madeleine, Ivan Cantos-Figuerola roots childhood into sensory memories. "Infancia - Estatua de Sal" is made of salt and resin. It evokes the spiritual chidlhood. The medium refers to Lot's episode in the Bible. His wife turns back on the destruction of Sodom and is turned into a salt pillar. The artist shows how memories from childhood can affect an adult and paralyse him in the present. More : www.arianecy.com
