Born in Pella, Iowa, DenHartog lives and works in Los Angeles. She received her M.F.A. from the Claremont Graduate University in Claremont, California and her undergraduate degree at Linfield College in McMinnville, Oregon. In her work she explores a perceptual encounter with landscape in painterly forms that engage gravity and space. Her work is in the collections of the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, the Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles, the San Diego Museum of Art, the Orange County Museum of Art, the Portland Art Museum among others. In 2012 Den Hartog was awarded a John F. Guggenheim Foundation Fellowship. Den Hartog is a professor at the Otis College of Art and Design and is the Program Director of the Sculpture/New Genres Program.
