Jack Craig, ‘PVC Series: Pressed’, 2013, Johnson Trading Gallery

About Jack Craig

Sculptor Jack Craig was first trained as an engineer and worked for the US Navy before pursuing degrees in industrial and 3D design. His works—which span the categories of furniture, lighting, and installation—are often made from common materials found in hardware stores. Among his most famous is the “PVC Series” (begun 2012), in which Craig heats and manipulates PVC water piping by hand, and transforms it into sculptural and sometimes functional objects. In this series, a number have their shapes determined by disks of wood or rock, which plug the top of the opening. He also works with urethane foam, polyester resin, and wood.
