About James Lahey

James Lahey is known for deftly harnessing a wide range of mediums, with an oeuvre consisting of photography, colourful abstractions, surreal seascapes, and vast public projects. Lahey’s interest in daily experiences, memory, and chance provides a link between his representational works—which frequently depict elemental subject matter—and his abstract paintings. Fellow artist Edward Burtynsky summarizes, “he wants to show us something essential about ourselves and about being alive.”

Canadian, b. 1961, Ottawa, Canada, based in Toronto, Canada
