A rectangular tapestry by Jan Yoors featuring an abstract black and pink form on an orange background with a light blue band around the edges. Similar examples in the collections of the Metropolitan Musem of Art, the Museum of Arts and Design, and the Art Institute of Chicago. Jan Yoors captured the modern spirit of the 1960’s and 70’s in his tapestry designs in the same way that the Abstract Expressionists were able to express it through their paintings.
Yoors’ work was recently featured in “Crafting Modernism: Midcentury American Art and Design” at the Museum of Arts and Design in New York and will be the subject of a major retrospective at the FelixArt Museum in Brussels, Belgium in November 2012. His tapestries have recently received coverage in the New York Times, Modern Magazine and Metropolis Magazine.
