About Janice Mehlman

New York photographer Janice Mehlman is known for her abstract, sculptural images that manipulate shadow and light. Often taking modernist architecture as her subject, Mehlman uses shredded bits of paper to carefully construct delicate, geometric patterns. Armed with her knowledge of formal composition, she is able to imbue lifeless spaces with a philosophical dimension, transforming buildings through the deft handling of color and light. “My work has continued to evolve, following a continuum,” the artist has said. Mehlman also teaches photography at the City University of New York.
