Janis Crystal Lipzin, ‘Las Manos’, 2017, San Francisco Cinematheque: Benefit Auction 2017

Framed, framed dimensions: 13 3/8 x 37 3/8 inches.

Janis Crystal Lipzin is an intermedia artist based in Sonoma County, California. Light sensitive materials and lens-based tools are her gateway to re-imagining and interpreting her visual world. Los Manos is the tenth work in the artist's 40-year series of Visible Inventories, works that have taken the form of film, video, photography, and installations. Los Manos uses images from her newest digital film of the same name to remind us of the indispensable physical labor that farm workers perform to bring food to our tables. Her work has received recognition with grants from the Center for Cultural Innovation and National Endowment for the Arts and by recent exhibitions including The Whitney Museum of Art's Dreamlands show, the Tate Modern, and the Film Society of Lincoln Center.
