About Jean-Bérenger de Nattes

Inspired by his global travels and knowledge of art history, Jean-Bérenger de Nattes creates furniture with references and antecedents that span epochs and cultures. His work is rooted in the First French Empire style, which combines classical forms with elaborate flourishes, but he also adopts elements of more recent design traditions, notably modernism. The designer’s line of coffee and side tables, for example, reflects a sleek modernist design characterized by U-shaped strips of sycamore wood alongside unexpected touches such as lacquer finishes on table undersides and legs made of gold-coated bronze tubes. These tubular legs epitomize de Natte’s approach, as their streamlined form is industrial and simple while also echoing a trefoil and evoking a luxurious quality with their golden finish.
