JeeYoung Lee, ‘Treasure Hunt’, 2010, Opiom Gallery

This piece was inspired by the adage, ?Finding a needle in a haystack.? I tried to reflect the reality that realizing one?s ideal is like searching for a needle in a grassy field, and the scene is set in the nighttime as a means of emphasizing just how hard it is.

I reproduced the rural nightscape from my own memories and simultaneously the process helped me recall treasure hunting games I?d play when I was little. The grass field was created by weaving together wires onto wire mesh, which took me approximately three months by hand. I used LED light bulbs to express fireflies.
