About Jeff Zimmerman

Contemporary glass artist Jeff Zimmerman creates colorful, organic sculptures that exploit advanced glassmaking techniques—disquieting and spinning, his sculptures call attention to the inherent mutability of the world. Born in Kentucky, Zimmerman spent his childhood among nature at the Anderson Ranch Arts Center of Colorado, where he was raised by artist parents. Although he originally pursued a degree in anthropology, Zimmerman took a glassblowing class that significantly changed his course. He went on to study classical Venetian glassblowing and master Italian techniques, apprenticing with masters (and ultimately, becoming one of his own) who approached glass-making in a conceptual, experimental way. At one point during his schooling, Zimmerman belonged to a collaborative glassblowing group, the B Team, whose punk rock performances helped move glass into realm of contemporary, relevant art.
