Jennifer Baker, ‘From My Bathroom Window, Bodine Street’, 2009, InLiquid

From the artist: "This lot was the site of a meat packing plant, demolished in the 1980s. The last few years have seen relentless construction on Bodine Street, 3rd Street, and American Street. The new structures are all luxury “townhomes,” some reaching 58 ft tall instead of the 38 feet typically allowed for rowhouses in Philadelphia. They sell for half to a million dollars and come with tax abatements for 10 years, allowing the wealthiest residents and developers to profit at the expense of the city."
