From the artist: "In the early 1990’s short dumping was a fact of life in Northern Liberties. The massive Burk Brothers Tannery, which occupied the area that is now Liberty Lands, was a favorite destination for people dumping construction debris and old tires. One night our neighbor tried to chase off some dumpers and was shot at, so he decided to leave them alone. Burk Brothers had closed in the 1970s, after which a small part of the building was occupied by Discmakers, manufacturers of red vinyl records, until the mid 1990s."
