Born in England, Jennifer Hornyak moved to Canada in 1961, and she now has a vigorous studio practice in Montreal. Her figurative compositions have a structured formalism that is at odds with their intimacy. Skillfully built up through a complex technique of rich green, blue, yellow, red, pink and white glazes, Hornyak is often described as a painter's painter.
Hornyak was invited to participate in the World Exhibition in Paris in 1987 along with Modigliani, Picasso and van Dongen. Her work has been exhibited throughout Europe and North America. Her portrait paintings were recently featured in a public exhibition in Montreal at the McClure Gallery for the Visual Arts. Since early July 2015, they have been on exhibit at the Oeno Gallery.
