Jennifer Hornyak's vase of variegated pink and lavender and flowers is set in front of a glorious golden yellow backdrop, resting on a light blue, striped table cloth with pink petals littered across it. Her generous application of paint instills the familiar subject, a floral still life, with a rhythmic dynamism. Her semi-figurative, almost abstract still life compositions are built up through a complex technique of richly colored glazes. She was invited to participate in the World Exhibition in Paris in 1987 along with Modigliani, Picasso and van Dongen. Her work has been exhibited throughout Europe and North America. Hornyak studied and painted in England for some time, but has resided in Montreal Canada for the past 30 years.
