Jeppe Hein creates installations that challenge the traditional notion of the passive viewer. His site-specific works are conceptual, interactive, and often activated by their viewers, whether through casting reflections in a rotating mirror or being startled by artwork itself, as in Shaking Cube (2004), an aluminum box that trembles whenever approached. In Hein’s installations Mobile Mobile (2008) and Light Pavillion II (2010), parts of the works either rotate or light up when gallery staff or viewers pedal a power-generating bike.
