Both a light fixture and a sculpture, the “Ming Vase with Gold Leaf” features the delicate ceramic petals of a cymbidium orchid bursting through a white vase. The object was born of an attraction to the timeless beauty of flora, alongside a fascination with oriental flower motifs and patterns.
The vase was created in response to living in a densely populated area of London, with the awareness of people becoming ever more disconnected from natural environments in their daily lives, and the artist’s work with floral motifs came from the desire to bring nature indoors in a lasting and elegant way.
