Jimmy Lee Sudduth is considered among the early masters of Southern outsider artists. Collectors look for his early work, with its use of thickly applied mud, paint and pigments, which he called “sweet mud”. Sudduth signed his works with his name and often, to encourage future sales, with his telephone number. His magnetic personality and natural talent brought him to the attention of the mainstream media, he appeared on the Today Show and on 60 Minutes, to name two. As noted in his obituary in The New York Times, Sudduth liked to say of himself, “I’m the most famousest in the world."
