Joani Tremblay, ‘A Paradigm Shift’, 2016, Projet Pangée

Unique piece, comes with it's colourful self (made by the artist).

Joani Tremblay focuses on the notion of place and landscape as well as abstraction within a practice that includes drawing, print media and installation. Her current work investigates the power of sites with historical or mystical significance, which she then works out as a battle between abstraction and figuration. Being drawn to current painting culture, she questions the label of contemporaneity within art. Pulling from various media interfaces - weather books, magazines or the Internet - she consciously and systematically investigate connections and tendencies. Globalized current aesthetic tropes are investigated and appropriated in a sincere and parodic manner, both formally and in writing.
Joani Tremblay is an artist and curator living in Montreal. She is an MFA candidate at Concordia University with an art practice based in drawing, print media and installation. Tremblay’s work has been shown in Tokyo (3331 Arts Chiyoda), New York City (DRAFTspace), Denton, Texas (tAd Gallery) and throughout Canada in Toronto (Open Studio Gallery), Montreal (Parisian Laundry) and soon in Edmonton (Latitude 53). Tremblay has also done artist residencies in Tokyo and Berlin. She is the recipient of the Vladimir J. Elgart Graduate Scholarship and a research grant from The Fonds de recherche du Québec - Société et culture.
