About Job Koelewijn

Job Koelewijn, who once said that he found painting to be too detached from real life, creates conceptual art that invites the use of hearing and smell to heighten optical experiences. He famously covered a wall in the Palazzo Ca' Zenobio with perfumed baby powder for the Venice Biennale in 2001, and made a device called the Internal Communication Amplifier (1997) that connects a user’s mouth to his or her own ears. Koelewijn is also deeply influenced by text and poetry, particularly Samuel Beckett and Dante, and literary references make material appearances in his installations as pages or book covers.
