About Joëlle Deroubaix
The studio of sculptor Joëlle Deroubaix in Vieuvicq in northern France is a wonderland filled with alluring creatures tucked away in a wild garden. The artist, who graduated from Beaux-Arts Bourges in 1973 and studied under La Borne artists Jean and Jacqueline Lerat, works under the motto, “la vie, c’est la femme” (life is a woman). She has spent her career sculpting figures of beautiful women imagined as mythical creatures and goddesses. Executed in terracotta, raku, and stoneware—as well as the occasional bronze—her sensual figures showcase the languid and animal side of female beauty.
