About John Bowman

Painting cityscapes, still lifes, and images from war, John Bowman updates historical genres in order to reflect on the modern world. His cityscapes feature dense groupings of simplified shapes and structures that create geometric patterns, while his still-life paintings substitute nature morte themes for sumptuous plates of fruit, vegetables, deli meats, cakes, and stacked cheeseburgers. The bountiful display reflects industrial food production and invokes the grotesque with its decadent levels of excess. Bowman has also produced drawing, sculpture, and public art projects.
