About John Stobart
Painter John Stobart has distinguished himself as a maritime artist, depicting detailed scenes of America's historic ports and harbors. Trained in academic painting, Stobart uses traditional techniques to create elegant and refined compositions. These paintings, along with the research on the 19th-century “clipper ship era” required for them, have rejuvenated a maritime art tradition and illuminated an often overlooked segment of American heritage. Due to increased demand, in the 1960s Stobart also began to produce limited edition prints of his paintings.
