About Jonathan Hernández

Jonathan Hernández renders the neglected and seldom noticed narratives of everyday urban life in photography, video, and collage. Hernández is fascinated by the human response to the glut of images in modern life, appropriating and forcing reconsideration of images so ubiquitous that viewers have ceased to process or internalize their content. He is best known for his collages of images culled from newspapers, postcards, and advertisements, in which he obscures the names and places to force viewers to develop their own schemes of meaning and context.
