About Jonathan Torgovnik

South Africa-based photographer Jonathan Torgovnik uses his camera to report from major crises around the world, interviewing his subjects to discover the personal stories behind the news. It was while on assignment for Newsweek that he embarked on a series of photographs of children born from rape during the Rwandan genocide of 1994. The work inspired the photographer to co-found Foundation Rwanda, a group that provides education to these children. In other series he has explored the human side of issues like the effects of the American meth epidemic, and the AIDS crisis in Africa, which he addressed in “A Generation Lost”, a series of portraits of grandmothers and orphans.
