About Jorge Queiroz

Jorge Queiroz creates dreamlike images that isolate figurative subjects in otherwise abstract and otherworldly painted environments. Queiroz often works on paper, combining stain and wash techniques with meandering drawn lines in a manner recalling the Surrealist automatist compositions of Joan Miró. Similarly, though its meaning is typically obscure, Queiroz’s work recalls Surrealism in its apparent manifestation of the artist’s unconscious, coaxing viewers to develop individual interpretations of his fantastical pictures, to seek order and narrative in his unsettling juxtapositions.
