An Ait Bou Ichaouen rug that is exceptional in a number of aspects: (a) the red (or burgundy) ground ones are the most common and their designs are normally based on a relatively strong red and black contrast that creates a very energetic but also quite hard-hitting aesthetic basis. This however retains very little amounts of black color, which is extremely rare, and the black that is used is used to create a delicate sketch of a diamond grid. Another unusual feature is the finesse of the drawing; the overall balance and the lack of bold and heavy forms that are normally quite typical for this group. In other word, it shows the typical energy and power but in a very individual, subtle, almost decent way.
