It is hard to describe why this Beni Mguild rug is so outstanding. You have to have seen thousands of technically perfect but uninspired and boring ones to really appreciate this one. It has a high degree of liberty that is very, very rare, specifically among the flat weaves where there is always a high risk for the weaves to show all her technical skills but drop back into a stereotypical design. The weavers who are able to translate their technical skills into an inspired design (even if very classical) are a very rare species.
