Baseball Magazine cover, July 1917
For more than a century, baseball was the All American Sport, and who better could illustrate the cover of Baseball Magazine than the All American artist, J. F. Kernan. In a style not unlike Norman Rockwell’s, Kernan painted the covers of many magazines, showing boys and old men hunting, fishing, camping or enjoying a baseball game. The magazines included: Liberty, Outdoor Life, Country Gentleman and The Saturday Evening Post.
In this July 1917, cover of Baseball, we see home fans and visitors, dressed in white shirts and ties, cheering and wincing during a crucial moment in the game.
