Joseph Harrington, ‘St Helens ii’, 2016, A Future Made

This piece is inspired by a visit Mount St Helens, the site of a massive volcanic eruption in 1980. Joseph was struck by the minimal recovery of the landscape with the only green shoots for miles growing from the grey ash covered banks of the lakes that were formed growing from the grey ash covered banks of the lakes that were formed during the eruption. He felt a strong sense of time, as this reformed landscape is as old as he is.
